The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday declined to extend the ongoing voter registration, despite pressure from opposition parties and civil society groups.
New Telegraph recalls that the commission had previously extended the registration by two weeks, which ended on Sunday.
According to the INEC’s Deputy Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, this extension has increased pressure on INEC ahead of next year’s general elections.
He made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“We simply have to conclude the process. Unfortunately, for those unable to register, there is nothing we can do at this time.
“Even the two-week extension we granted adds to our challenges in preparing the voter register,” Ifogah explained.
“Based on our schedule, we require approximately 75 days to complete the registration process from the time it ends.”
