The National Movement for Tinubu-Shettima 2027 says Nigeria, at 66, has every reason to believe in itself in spite of current economic challenges.

The group, which operates as Forward Nigeria!, stated this in a press statement issued on Friday in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The statement, signed by its National Chairman, Prof. Rufa’i Alkali, congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and all Nigerians at home and abroad.

The movement described Nigeria as a nation of remarkable resilience that has endured civil war, economic crises, insecurity and political upheavals but has remained one indivisible nation.

It said the country is undergoing significant reforms under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to address structural challenges that have constrained growth for decades.

According to the group, while the reforms have brought difficult adjustments and hardship, emerging improvements in economic stability, investment and fiscal resilience indicate that foundations for recovery are being laid.

It said the task now is to translate reforms into relief, growth into jobs and recovery into broad-based prosperity.

The group noted that investments in roads, rail, electricity, housing, agriculture and energy are strengthening the productive base of the economy, adding that the CNG initiative, electricity reforms and efforts to attract investment into the oil and gas sector will help reduce energy costs and create employment.

It, however, stressed that infrastructure must deliver, electricity must become more reliable and accessible, food must become more affordable and young Nigerians must find opportunities at home.

The movement said food security must be treated as national security and called for sustained investment in agriculture, irrigation, mechanisation, storage and rural infrastructure, as well as stronger collaboration between farmers, industry and markets.

It added that young people must remain at the centre of development through education, skills acquisition, digital technology and access to finance, while women, persons with disabilities and small businesses must be integrated into the development agenda.

On security, the group saluted the Armed Forces, Police and other security agencies, and called for a sustained fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and oil theft, supported by intelligence, technology and improved welfare for personnel.

The movement also called for peaceful, issue-based politics ahead of 2027, saying the record of the Tinubu administration should be assessed alongside alternatives in an atmosphere free from violence, intimidation and ethnic and religious hatred.

It reaffirmed its support for the Tinubu administration, stating that continuity and stronger implementation are needed to consolidate the gains of ongoing reforms and make their benefits visible in the daily lives of Nigerians.
