The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has urged relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into allegations of threats to the life of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi.

The organisation made the appeal in a statement jointly signed by its Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Deputy Secretary-General, Professor Chibuzor Achoakawa.

The statement stressed that the safety of every Nigerian citizen, particularly those involved in national political affairs, is of utmost importance and must never be ignored.

The organisation further emphasised that while every allegation of insecurity deserves attention, public claims involving threats to life must be handled with responsibility and transparency.

Ohanaeze also urged Mr. Obi to provide verifiable details surrounding his allegations, noting that unverified accusations could create unnecessary tension and deepen political suspicion.

“The protection of presidential aspirants and major political stakeholders is the responsibility of the Nigerian state and must not be influenced by political considerations,” the statement added.

It further urged the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu to ensure that all presidential contenders, including Mr. Peter Obi, are provided with adequate security arrangements as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.
